After having written some arrangements for the English ensemble Arpège they commisioned me to write an original composition, this became EVE.
EVE was originally written for flute, viola, horn and harp and was premiered on Febr. 11th 2007. Later I decided to make an alternative piano part. This version was premiered in February 2010 by Willeke van Rooyen, Karin Dolman, Wendy Leliveld and Caecilia Boschman.

I wanted to make full use of the different timbres that this unusual combination of instruments provides. Somehow these colours reminded me of a collection of poems that I had been reading and that became the inspiration for the music: "La chanson d'Ève", by the Belgian symbolistic poet Charles van Lerberghe. I was captured by the imagery he uses and the way he invokes a magical world. A world that is yours to enjoy and that challenges you to be explored completely - but in discovering its secrets you find you have entered a realm that is utterly alien to you. You can only flee but the magic is gone forever.
