W.A.Mozart: - Sonata in A, KV 526
For flute and piano
- Molto allegro
Duration 23:20 minutes
Mozart originally wrote this sonata in 1787 for violin and piano while working in Don Giovanni.
I was looking for a mature Mozart sonata that would lend itself to be played on the flute. The playfull, lively character of the first and last movements, and the singing quality of the slow movement seemed to me to be a perfect fit .
On the other hand, an arrangement was not immedeately obvious because of the low tessitura of the violin part and the many typical violinistic passages. Therefore in my opinion it was not enough to simply "re-write" the violin part but the piano part needed to be adjusted as well and sometimes I have redistributed the notes between the instruments. Paradoxally I have taken these liberties to be more faithfull to the sonata in the sense that I wanted it to sound like an original sonata for flute and piano instead of an arrangement that does not dare to break away from its violin background.
